Other performance features include sixteen pipeline stages, support for SSE multimedia instructions, a full-speed Floating Point Unit (FPU) and an efficiency-enhanced 64KB Full-Speed Exclusive L2 cache with 16-way associativity for memory optimization and enhanced digital media streaming.

Complimenting the digital media performance of the VIA C3-M processor, the VIA CN400 digital media chipset is specifically designed for flawless digital video playback and streaming with its integrated hardware MPEG2 decoder and MPEG4 accelerator. MPEG4 video can be as much as ten times more compressed than MPEG2 video that is used by DVDs, opening the door to low bit rate video streaming applications, such as video on demand (VOD), over existing networks and broadband Internet connections. The VIA CN400 chipset takes on much of the hard work involved with decoding highly compressed video files, freeing up VIA C3-M resources and saving battery life while delivering smooth 30 frames per second digital video playback.
